Overview

Thank you for your interest in participating in I Love A Clean San Diego’s Adopt-A-Beach program. Please follow these steps to adopt:

  • You must first register for the program online. Make sure that you select your beach and at least one cleanup date for your group.
  • Once you have registered, make sure that you download and print the Waiver of Liability for the program. All participants must sign a waiver before they participate in a cleanup.
  • Don’t forget to recruit friends, family, and co-workers to volunteer at your cleanup.
  • Schedule to pick up your supplies at ILACSD’s office before your cleanup.
  • Go online or use a map to find directions to your cleanup site. You may also want to scout out the best place for your group to park.
  • Download the Totals Report Form and bring it to your cleanup. Record the number of volunteers and amount of trash & recycling that you collected.
  • At your cleanup, don’t forget to login and report these totals.
  • If you have borrowed trash grabbers, these must be returned within one week of your cleanup to receive the full deposit back. If you have extra supplies, either return them or store them for your next cleanup.

Safety Procedures

Prior to the event, make sure that all participants:

  • Receive and sign the waiver of liability. If under 18, the waiver must be signed by a parent or guardian.
  • Wear closed-toe shoes, a hat, and sunscreen to cleanup. If cleaning an inland area, we recommend that volunteers wear long pants.

On the day of your cleanup, please be sure to review these safety/cleanup rules with volunteers:

  • Children should be supervised by adults at all times.
  • Do not pick up any needles, syringes, broken glass, or other hazardous items. Mark items and alert a lifeguard or ranger as to their location.
  • Do not touch dead or injured animals.
  • Do not turn your back on the street or other hazardous. If cleaning near the ocean, be very careful during periods of high surf or a rising tide.
  • Make sure fire pits are cold before touching.
