Other Ways to Help

  • Take the Coastal Stewardship Pledge to protect the coastal environment. You may download the pledge from www.coastforyou.org.
  • Recruit friends, family and co-workers to volunteer at ILACSD events like Creek to Bay and Coastal Cleanup Day, further cementing your commitment to a clean San Diego!!
  • Reduce, reuse, and recycle at school, home, and work. Less trash generate means less of it ends up at the beach and in our oceans.
  • Buy recycled products that contain the least amount of packaging in order to preserve natural resources.
  • Never pour or throw things down storm drains—they drain to beaches and are not filtered or treated before entering the ocean.
  • Throw cigarette butts in ashtrays and trash cans—never on the beach or street.
  • Properly dispose of fishing lines, nets, and hooks to keep marine mammals free from entanglement and harm.
  • Buy a “Whale Tail” license plate on the California Coastal Commission website. Proceeds support year-round cleanup efforts. Visit www.coastal.ca.gov for more information.
  • Remember your reusable tote bags when at the grocery store or even at the mall. Plastic Bags are one of the most common types of marine debris that harms marine animals including sea turtles and sea birds.
  • Use steel or aluminum reusable water bottles rather than a single-use bottle every time you need a drink. They are a handy, dishwasher safe, and an eco-friendly solution to our dependence on plastic.
